What is HAT Format?
HAT Format is the Yu-Gi-Oh! format played in the summer of 2014, from the release of Primal Origin until the release of Duelist Alliance.
Although the card pool and ruleset changed throughout HAT Format, the widely-used community standard (followed by HATFormat.com) is to mirror the 2014 North American World Championship Qualifier held on July 11, 2014. This follows the April 2014 Forbidden and Limited List and use the TCG 2011 Rules Change (the equivalent of Master Rules [2]).

When was HAT Format?HAT Format is considered to span May 16, 2014 - August 15, 2014. However, this website is based on the 2014 NAWCQ tournament which took place July 11, 2014, and uses the corresponding ruleset.
Why is it called HAT Format?Similarly to how Goat Format is named after the famous Goat Control deck, HAT Format is named after H.A.T control, one of the top performing decks from the time period. H.A.T. stands for Hand, Artifact, and Traptrix. This deck ended up winning the 2014 NAWCQ piloted by Korey McDuffie (pictured).
